It’s fair to say that Eight Capital Partners’ antecedent structure, Cogenpower plc., had a bumpy start in life. Listed on AIM, Cogenpower, an alternative energy group, became a cash shell when it sold its Cogenpower business in December 2017, temporarily re branding as Monreal plc.
Cogenpower was liquidated but that had nothing to do with the current directors of Eight Capital, who took over following the liquidation and who argue that they changed Cogenpower to take the new business forward in a way that is positive for the company and its shareholders. It changed its name to Eight Capital Partners in August, following a move to NEX Exchange, took on a new Chairman, and announced that it was now focusing on investments in technology, media, telecoms and financial services.Read More

One of the leading proponents of medicinal cannabis in the UK today is Geremy Thomas, CEO of Sativa Investments (Sativa), which is quoted on the NEX Exchange and is the UK's first medicinal cannabis investment vehicle.
Thomas was well aware of the various exchanges he could use to float Sativa and chose NEX Exchange to debut. "As an investor in a number of NEX Exchange stocks I was already interested in the exchange." Sativa joined in March this year and the experience has, as Thomas says, been "very positive. When we first quoted I was asked when I thought medicinal cannabis would become available in the UK and I said two to three years, but the regulatory moodhas changed remarkably fast, thanks mainly to pressure from public opinion."Read More

Supporting Companies in a New Range of Ways
It is sometimes easy to forget that the core purpose of a stock exchange is to provide a safe meeting place for those seeking capital (i.e. companies) with those who have available capital (i.e. investors). JEB, SUG’S a technology start-up or incubator fund. What will make it different from “Me Too” incubators?
We believe that most start-up accelerators measure success by the amount of funding, losing sight of revenue. SUG’s model shifts the focus from how much money a company raises to the viability of the start-up’s business model and the ability of the start-up to achieve revenue milestones quickly, e. g. £1 million, £10 million revenue. We focus exclusively on businesses with “freemium” or marketplace revenue models. Other start up accelerators seek teams of people, with the principal founder having a technology background.Read More

The key reason that many companies seek to join a public market like NEX Exchange is to raise essential capital to accelerate their growth.
The process of raising the required capital is sometimes challenging, with different parties involved and varying advice on offer. How much can you raise? How do you present yourselves to investors? What type of investors should you target and how much will you have to pay in fees? These are just a few of the questions that need to be answered and every company’s circumstances will be different, so there are no standard responses.Read More

As an app developer the greatest challenge for most start-ups is funding. The power of the government Enterprise InvestmentScheme (EIS) and the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) to assist in this challenge must not be underestimated. Whilst it doesn’t directly benefit the company, the incentive can be a good counterbalance to the higher risk of investing in start-ups (up to 72.5% for SEIS) and can open doors to a whole new host of investors from retail, to high net worths and institutions. EIS and SEIS status can make the difference between raising capital or not.Read More

However, you could be excused for not having heard of his latest venture, the Nex Exchange. The market was known as ISDX until the recent Tullett Prebon-Icap deal, which resulted in the creation of the Nex Group name. Birley’s mission as chief executive of Nex Group is to get its name out there.
